Kiya Ward Shears is a compelling speaker and enthusiastic leader with a contagious hunger for God! As an internationally published author, Pastor Kiya holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Communication Studies and a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies: International Public Relations from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Pastor Kiya has a niche for international travel, which landed her as a student in the Business School at Manchester Metropolitan University in Manchester, England in 2011; and as the Interim Pastor of Wesley Methodist Church on the island of Inagua in the Bahamas in 2016. Pastor Kiya is currently the Campus Pastor at Mount Zion Charlotte Metro under the leadership of Bishop Bryan J. Pierce, Sr.
With a passion for family, homiletics, interpersonal communication and civic engagement, Pastor Kiya founded The Journey Collective Inc. a 501(c)3 group coaching movement that empowers women in their spiritual, emotional, physical and financial wellness. This organization reaches over 500 women across the country every year and Kiya believe that "when women are empowered, homes and communities are transformed."
Kiya's civic engagement, dynamic preaching and heart for empowering others has gained her local and national recognition haven been named one of the 2018 Top 40 under 40 leaders to watch by the Triad Business Journal, the 2018 recipient of the Frederick Buchner Award for excellence in preaching, awarded by the faculty of Candler School of Theology at Emory University and one of the 2022 Most Influential African Americans Under 40 In The Triad by Black Business Ink.
Kiya is most proud of being the doting wife of Pastor George Shears III and is the loving mother of an adventurous two year old.
